Port Everglades Expansion Program
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Since the 1980s, Port Everglades enjoyed substantial
growth in each of the market segments it served (petroleum,
containers, cruise, dry bulks, and neobulks). As a result
of continuing population and economic growth in the
area, coupled with its proximity to Latin America and
the Caribbean, Port Everglades market outlook
indicated sustained growth in each of its market segments
over the next five to ten years.
As part of the Port Everglades Authoritys plans
to expand and meet its market demand, a $200 million
expansion program was undertaken to plan, design, and
construct new port facilities. DMJM+HARRIS was chosen
as port consultant to provide a management information
system and construction management procedures. We also
performed market studies, planning, and preliminary
and final design for numerous port facilities included
in the master plan. Program elements included a new
container terminal, RO/RO terminal, intermodal container
transfer facility, turning notch, cruise terminal expansion,
and improvements to the internal roadway and railway
network.
