General Consulting
Services, Maricopa County Regional Freeway
System
Maricopa County, Arizona
The Arizona Department of Transportation
(ADOT) selected DMJM+HARRIS to provide general
consulting services for the Regional Freeway
System program. The program is funded until
2006 by a half-cent sales tax for Maricopa
County, which includes the entire Phoenix
Metropolitan area. The $4.6-billion program
will complete 107 miles of the Regional
Freeway System.
DMJM+HARRIS is managing the preliminary
engineering aspects of the freeway system
and will produce general plans for all freeway
elements. Other responsibilities include
scheduling, developing cost estimates, developing
an earthwork management plan, and developing
a construction-sequencing plan that optimizes
funding and cash flow aspects of the program.
DMJM+HARRIS is chairing a design issue
resolution committee for ADOT that addresses
emerging issues to ensure consistency among
the projects design firms. Extensive
coordination efforts require involving all
technical sections within ADOT and all firms
actively involved in Regional Freeway System
design efforts. DMJM+HARRIS will develop
an Aesthetic Guidelines manual for the Regional
Freeway System outlining aesthetic treatments
for the structural elements of the system.
Points of emphasis include consistency within
each freeway corridor and compatibility
with the adjacent community.
