Southern New Jersey Light Rail
Transit System
Newark, New Jersey
DMJM+HARRIS, in joint venture, is the general design
assistance consultant for the 34-mile transit system
in Burlington, Camden and Mercer Counties, New Jersey.
This Design/Build/Operate/Maintain (DBOM) program will
extend the reach of the extremely successful PATCO rapid
transit service by providing better access to Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. Additionally, the project will improve
intrastate mobility in New Jersey and stimulate development
of employment centers and other destinations in southern
New Jersey.
Environmental assessment and compliance is a major element
of the program. The transit corridors that constitute
the SNJLRTS have long been the subject of a variety
of studies and proposals. As suburban development reaches
further into previously undeveloped rural and agricultural
land, automobile traffic in the region has grown resulting
in increased traffic congestion. In support of the environmental
aspects of the project, DMJM+HARRISs team members
are providing services in the following areas:
Program management - Cost/schedule control; health and
safety plans; QA/QC; reports, graphics, designs, and
other project support documents. A full EIS for the
entire construction corridor as well as ancillary facilities
including a yard, maintenance shop, park & rides,
and both new and historic stations.
