Philadelphia Area Businesses Partner to Support our Troops in a Sweet Way
West Chester agency spearheads Operation Gratitude’s candy initiative.
WEST CHESTER, Pa., (November 11, 2016) – What started as a leftover Halloween candy collection, has turned into a community wide effort. Rhoads Creative, a West Chester digital marketing agency, partnered with various businesses throughout the area to collect sweet treats for Operation Gratitude’s project. From an area bank, well versed in community service, to an in-home care company, founded by a U.S. Marine, all partners went above and beyond. The results are hundreds of pounds of candy and even handwritten thank you notes to be sent overseas to our troops – the perfect way to express gratitude just in time for Thanksgiving!
Rhoads Creative coordinated the effort from start to finish. From selecting local partners and organizing drop-off locations to picking up and packing the many over-filled boxes. Due to the enormity of the results, Rhoads will be donating the shipping cost to ensure that the hundreds of pounds of candy will make its way to the Operation Gratitude distribution center and then be shipped overseas.
Partners jumped at the opportunity to support our troops. First Resource Bank, with branches in both West Chester and Exton, had the community behind them throughout the collection. Customers dropped off candy in masses, with their children even writing thank you notes, leaving both lobbies filled to the brim with goodies. Relative Care, a Downingtown based in-home care company, held this initiative close to their hearts. Their founder, a U.S. Marine Veteran, backed the collection and encouraged employees to donate candy from their company wide trick-or-treat event. Delaware County’s Riddle Village, a Lifecare Retirement Community, promoted the collection in their employee newsletter, which had hundreds of employees vying to see who could donate the most candy. Philadelphia area builder, Prime Customer Builders, reached out to local businesses to donate and invited clients, employees and members of the community to stop by their office and drop-off candy.
Since its inception in 1993, Operation Gratitude’s mission to lift the spirits and meet the evolving needs of the military and first responders communities has proven to be invaluable. Annually, Operation Gratitude sends 200,000+ care packages to veterans, first responders, new recruits, wounded heroes and U.S. service members deployed overseas. Each package is filled with food, entertainment, hygiene, hand-made goodies and personal letters of support. To date, volunteers have shipped more than 1.6 million care packages to show their appreciation to all who serve our nation.
While a candy drive may seem like an unconventional service project, Rhoads Creative saw its value as multifaceted. “As a company, our goal was to give back to all who serve our country while bringing the community together,” said Paula Rhoads. “We are proud to be a part of this unique opportunity and even prouder of our partners for going above and beyond so that our nation’s most respected receive sweet treats this Thanksgiving!”
