Capture Millennials’ Attention with Instagram’s New Business Tools

Millennials are known for their persistent social media usage – Instagram included. Let’s face it; it’s uncommon to encounter an 18-34 year old that doesn’t have an Instagram account. According to eMarketer, “This year, there will be 48.2 million millennial Instagram users in the United States. By 2019, nearly two-thirds of all millennial smartphone users will use Instagram.”
There’s good news for marketers. Instagram recently rolled out three new business tools that can be used to target millennials.
- New Business Profiles: In order to convert your current Instagram profile into a business profile, you must have an existing Facebook Business Page. Converted Instagram business accounts will have the opportunity to design a “Contact” button on their profile – a call to action button allowing viewers to call, text, send an email or even get directions.
- Insights: The new Insights feature will offer businesses a chance to view their analytics. It’s designed to offer performance numbers such as; impressions on your own posts, top posts, reach and engagement around individual posts. Insights will also enable businesses to view a breakdown of their followers’ demographics (age range, location). The best part? It’s free!
- New Tools to Promote Posts: Businesses will now be able to turn their well performing posts into ads (similar to sponsored posts on Facebook). Instagram will suggest which posts to promote, allow you to select the demographics you would like to reach and set the duration of the ad campaign. You don’t have to be an advertising expert to create a promoted post. Instagram has designed the feature to ensure that it’s both simple and effective for users!
These new features provide businesses with the opportunity to reach the largest audience of Instagram users. As time goes on, the number of millennial Instagram users will only continue to increase.
